It was very sad, to read in the news, that someone has died, as a result of contracting Legionnaire’s Disease, in one of our local hotels. Legionnaire’s disease is a potentially fatal form of pneumonia caused by the Legionella bacteria that occur naturally in water systems. Normally the bacteria exist in small numbers and present no risk to health, but in certain conditions they can multiply quickly and cause a serious health risk. These conditions are when they water temperature is between 20 and 45 degrees celsius, the water is stored or recirculated , where there are nutrients in the water ( e.g. limescale and rust ) and where there are water droplets e.g. a shower.
