For the first few years of running my B&B I offered evening meals to guests. They were more popular than I expected. We don’t have a pub or restaurant within walking distance and not everyone wants to drive in the evening ( though our guests can get the train down to neighbouring towns for an evening meal )
However it was very time consuming and I was spending most evenings in the kitchen and dining room. This was after a day getting up early to cook breakfast and cleaning rooms. I’d given up a 9-5 job with weekends off to work a 70 hour week 🤔I now offer platters for guests. They’re very popular. I’m doing 3 this week. I offer a ploughman’s, local cheese, smoked salmon, vegetarian / vegan. I leave the platter in the guest room fridge, along with a sliced loaf of homemade granary bread and butter. I pre slice the loaf and put it under a glass dome so it stays fresh. This is the local cheese platter. I’m not licensed so I can’t sell or give wine to guests, but they can bring their own. I leave both wine and champagne glasses and a corkscrew in the room. I charge £25 for 2 people. I don’t really make money of them but it’s an added extra which guests appreciate … See MoreSee Less
